Course Length: 2 Semesters
Students will benefit from their study of science by increasing their awareness and understanding of the natural world. Just as important, students practice a scientific approach to solving problems, which can be used outside the science classroom. If students are to grow into successful and productive adults, they must be able to identify problems and try to solve them in a rational way.
As eighth graders, students will continue to study their physical environment. This will include earth science as well as life science. Students will study atoms and how they react. Students will also learn microscope techniques and investigate the cellular world.
Students will continue the use of the scientific method, practicing measuring skills, safety, indirect reasoning, and model building. Additional skills that will be practiced are mapping, classifying, identifying and graphing.
