High School Physical Education / Health


All students are required to take 1.5 credits of Physical Education as a requirement for graduation and Wisconsin state law.  Physical Education classes meet every day for one semester and are included in the overall grade point average.  The PE Department encourages students to take a half credit each year of high school. 

The introductory course is Physical Education I.  Students must pass this class before taking electives Physical Education II or the Strength and Conditioning class.  Students are encouraged to take .5 credit per year.

In order to participate in Physical Education, students will be required to have a uniform consisting of a t-shirt, athletic shorts, sweatpants, sweatshirt, and tennis shoes.  Students not dressed appropriately for the day, will not be allowed to participate.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION I: Students will participate in a comprehensive Physical Education program, which will provide a broad skills foundation for their successful participation in future elective classes. The students will receive the following activities in PE I: speedball, softball, tennis, volleyball, weight training, aerobics, fitness activities, and social dance. "semester course"

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II: Students selecting this course will participate in four to six different activities/quarter. The activities may include the following: aerobics, archery, badminton, biking, bowling, broomball, flag football, floor hockey, Frisbee golf, golf, lacrosse, pickleball, cross country skiing, Pilates, rollerblading, shuffleboard, snow shoes, soccer, softball, table tennis, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, weight training and yoga. "semester course" Course fee - $25.00 (bowling).

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING: This will be an advance strength and conditioning class. The students will be expected to implement a personal fitness program. The students will be monitored weekly to assure they achieve their expected results. Achievement will be based on personal fitness goals that are designed by the instructor and student together. The Strength and Conditioning class meets the requirement for PE II. "semester course"

HEALTH: All sophomores enroll in Health. Some of the topics covered include healthy choices and decision making, mental health, stress, fitness and weight control, drug use and abuse including alcohol and tobacco, infectious diseases including STDs and AIDS, non-infectious diseases, relationships, and sexuality. Since this course includes material on sensitive topics, parental involvement is encouraged. "semester course" Course fee = $9.00 (book).

Successful completion of 1/2 credit in Health is a graduation requirement for all students.
