Physical educators are responsible for helping children and youth acquire the knowledge, skills, and self-confidence they need to participate in a wide variety of physical activities during their school years and beyond. Educators can help motivate students to make a commitment to be physically active by aligning instruction with these standards for physical education and creating curriculum and activities designed to instill within students a desire to be active for life. A comprehensive, developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten through grade 12 program includes promotion of physical activity among youth and motivation to pursue lifelong active participation which ensures optimal quality of life.
