The Advanced Placement Program (AP)

The Advanced Placement Program allows students to take college level courses that may give them college credit while they are still in high school. As noted by the College Board’s research notes, students that take Advanced Placement courses and exams are much more likely than their peers to complete a bachelor’s degree in four years or less.

In May of 2016, Sun Prairie High School students took 24 Advanced Placement exams. In addition, approximately 478 students took 840 exams! We had 123 AP Scholars, including 2 with National AP Scholar recognition.

We are happy to announce that we are offering 26 Advanced Placement courses during the 2017-2018 school year.

The AP Parent Night has been rescheduled for 1/18 at 6 pm in the HS Performing Arts Center.

How to Choose AP Courses

2016-2017 AP Exam Registration Information

Every student who registers must attend an Advanced Placement Pre-Administration Session in April.

Advanced Placement testing is offered to all students whether or not they are enrolled in a course designated as Advanced Placement.   AP coursework will assists students in preparing for the national Advanced Placement tests given in May.   The tests are optional and are for those students who wish to earn college credits. Students will register for testing in February.   Wisconsin Statutes 120.12(22) requires the Sun Prairie Area School District to pay the fee for taking Advanced Placement exams for students who qualify for free and reduced priced lunches.  Students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunches must pay their own exam fees.

The cost of each exam during the 2016/2017 school year is $93. You may pay online with a credit card through Infinite Campus or by check (made out to Sun Prairie High School).

Students who choose not to test after they have registered will have the option of reimbursement of all but $25 for each exam. The $25 will be used  to cover the unused exam fee to CollegeBoard and to cover the cost of processing the exam.

Please note that students do not automatically receive the same accommodations they get in school, even if they have an IEP or 504 plan. If you believe your child needs accommodations, please contact Ms. Buchanan by Feburary 1, 2017.

The online registration, payments, and transportation forms must be turned in NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, February 10th at 3:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please call Brooke Buchanan, AP Coordinator, at (608) 834-6747.
