Traffic Safety Education

The classroom portion of Traffic Safety is also offered during the summer.  This option is open to any student who is 15 years of age.  Credit (.25) is still earned.  This is recommended for anyone that may find it difficult to work Traffic Safety into the regular school yer schedule.  Please contact Mr. Olson for more information at 834-6851.

Traffic Safety Education is a nine-week course.  It is built around the philosophy of defensive driving.  Wisconsin law states that, beginning September 1, 1968, all applicants for a Wisconsin driver's license under the age of eighteen must first satisfactorily complete both the classroom and behind-the-wheel program in Traffic Safety.

Students failing the classroom phase of Traffic Safety Education will have the opportunity to be rescheduled in succeeding quarter, with the consent of the Traffic Safety instructor if there are openings available.  In the event that the succeeding quarter enrollments are filled, they will have the opportunity to make up the classroom phase the following school year.

The first Behind the Wheel lesson will be scheduled within 60 days of receiving a temporary license.  Other lessons will take place either upon completion of the classroom portion or concurrently with the classroom phase.  Instruction is provided on automatic transmission cars.

The temporary license exam is given at the high school on every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  (Summer hours are posted in The Star and the High School front office.)  The test site is in room 706 and the time is 7:30 a.m.  This is provided only for those students who are taking the High School Traffic Safety Education course.  Students are encouraged to take the test when they are 151/2 years old.  Students who do so will be on schedule to receive their license at 16 years of age.  Classroom is not required before taking the temps test!

Prior to contacting the DMV or school counselor, please contact Mr. Olson at 608-225-3601 or 834-6851 with questions or concerns anytime.
